Evoking the poignant essence of autumn in a new way, this mixed media clay and fiber piece creates an unexpected presence. It starts with a knarled bonsai tree knitted in classic brown and cream tweed yarn, sporting a large knot hole in its thick trunk. Each limb carries a bronzy yellow knitted pointed leaf. It’s “planted” – by its knitted roots! – in commercial rounded pebbles into a hand-carved stoneware bag glazed in a soft blue-white matte. The tree is somewhat adjustable in its gesture and all parts of the sculpture are separate to enable future assemblies. Enjoy all the angles in the photos.
