One of The Most Fun Things to do with clay is make it look like something else entirely, share it with the world and lay in wait. Artistic entrapment is such fun, and so is hearing the excited squeals of the fooled when they figure it out. Sometimes they don’t, either. I once had someone look at a display of my rusty cans, walk over and tap one and even pick it up and then still remark to their friend, “Yeah, it’s metal…” Gotcha! And beyond that kind of fun, there is a hefty tradition of trompe l’oeil this sort of work belongs to. I am proud to be a member of it. All the work here is hand-formed and handpainted with ceramic materials, fired and laid in an aesthetic trap. (This section is specifically for sculpture, so please go see The Cannery section for the metal cans…)
